Mad for Mad Men

Grooms, this post is for you! If you haven’t already heard, Banana Republic teamed up with Janie Bryant, the costume designer for Mad Men, to bring grooms everywhere the chance to dress in razor sharp 1960′s style. I love that this collection offers versatile clothing including jackets, sweaters and hats as opposed to suits alone. After all, you want to look the complete part when saying “I do”!

What are your thoughts on the collection? Are you mad for Mad Men?

My bridesmaids are wearing the little black dresses from this line at our Disney wedding in January!

Personally I prefer more buttons on my waistcoat and guys really need to remember to accessorize. Guys should have a watch chain and fob. The fold-back cuff on the shirt is very nice but I’d like to see a selection of cufflinks and button covers that could be used with these outfits. Button covers are a fantastic innovation and you can change the whole look of an outfit using button covers and a few other accents.

The hats are nice but could use a a bit of accent on the hatband. I put an extra pair of my aircrew wings on my Fedora. On my Bowler I actually change out the hatband entirely for a colored one depending on the rest of the outfit or my mood.
I’m not sure why the models always seem to have their hands in their pockets. It makes it really tough to see the line and form of the slacks. The entire ensemble is nice but I wish I could see the outfits on some more athletic guys. Maybe on some older guys to since you might see an uncle or father-type person wearing something like this, especially for the rehearsal.
