It’s All In the Boutonniere

Calling all grooms-to-be! From Pac Man to traditional floral, boutonnieres are a chance for you to express your sense of style and personality. There’s nothing I love more than when grooms get creative with what’s pinned to their suit jacket…

Finding the Perfect Tux

Stressed about tux shopping? Don’t be. For most guys, your wedding day is the very first time you’ll slip on a tuxedo. So today I’m dishing a few tips to making sure it’s the perfect one.

  • All men need to adhere to a few basic tuxedo rules. First, your fingertips should reach the bottom of your jacket when standing. Next, make sure it’s not too tight or too lose; remember that a perfect fitting jacket will slightly taper at the waist. Lastly, the sleeves of your shirt should exceed your jacket by no more than one inch.
  • Slender men of a tall or medium height are quite lucky, as most styles of tuxedos will look good on you.
  • For men with a wide face or neck, it is important to not appear as if your tie or bowtie is too tight. To avoid this, stay away from thin ties or wing tip collared shirts.
  • Thinner men should look for jackets with a bit of a shoulder pad to make the body look more muscular. Conversely, shorter and stockier men should avoid shoulder pads at all costs.
  • Stout and muscular men should consider vests rather than cummerbunds to avoid drawing attention to your midsection.
  • Single breasted jackets look best on shorter and slender men, as it helps to give length to your body.

Happy tuxing!

Trend Alert: Man Showers

I love that grooms have recently taken a more active role in the wedding planning process. And I couldn’t think of a better way to keep grooms-to-be feeling involved than by hosting a man shower- the wedding shower with a twist!

groom wedding showers

A man shower is essentially a bridal shower minus the women, décor and bridal bliss. The groom selects a venue, registers for gifts and is embraced with the company of great friends and family. Man showers are the extreme form of a bridal shower – bigger food, bigger gifts and bigger guests. The man shower is a warm-up to the traditional bachelor party, allowing the groomsmen to bond and make all the gentlemen feel a little more included.

Man Showers

The possibilities are endless for man shower themes and ideas. Some of my favorites include an outing at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course, an outdoor experience like Mickey’s Backyard BBQ at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort or a sporting event at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Incorporating the groom and giving him a special day will keep him just as eager and excited for the exchanging of nuptials as the bride. Of course getting a few more gadgets crossed off the wedding registry wish list doesn’t hurt either.

How To: Tie a Bow Tie

The epitome of dapper, bow ties are chic accessories that always make a statement. Being in the weddings industry, knowing how to tie the perfect bow is an absolute must- you can’t have a groom walk down the aisle until he’s looking 110 percent after all! It’s definitely a learned art, so today I’m sharing one of my favorite how-to videos so you too can be a bow master.

Cheers to the perfect knot!

Suit Up: Groom Trend Watch

Be sure to check out our “adorkable” feature on the Disney Parks Blog.

Let’s be honest- most grooms know weddings are all about the bride. But rightfully so, we’re seeing more and more men wanting a little piece of the spotlight on their big day too. Grooms want a voice so they still look (and feel) like themselves when saying “I do”.

Right now we’re seeing a lot of our guys choosing to forgo proper tuxes altogether and instead gift custom suits to their groomsmen. Since each suit is unique to the individual, groomsmen feel included in the big day and walk away with a practical gift they’ll wear again and again. Suspenders, geeky glasses and sneakers are still very in and a fun way to infuse personality without compromising a formal look.

Remember: whether you’re sporting a bright bow tie or fun boutonniere, it’s important you feel like yourself when walking down the aisle. After all, it’s your day too.
